When shooting Black powder, when it's fired, what's left is basically charcoal. Soap and water cleanup. I mix Ballistol 50/50 with water and use that in the bore after a brushing with a bore brush and rinsing twice with clear water. I let the mix sit for a bit while I get rehydrated and the rest of the cleaning stuff ready. I pour it out and commence to clean the bore using pure Ballistol on the swabs. When clean I take a heavily soaked patch of Ballistol down. Then I work on the lock. That means taking it off the gun and cleaning with an old toothbrush etc. I then spray Ballistol (that's where the aerosols are handy, but hand sprayers are good too.) Put it together and retrieve the soaked patch from the bore and wipe down all the wood, the barrel and the leather if there is a sling. Finished. Smokeless powder firearms, I just use straight without mixing with water.

Hi, My name is Darylee Foertsch. I'm the owner of Muddy Flint Trades. I started carrying Ballistol because it works so well and I'm a believer in it. Come post some of the things you've done with it, and your reactions to it's use.
